Krakadouw farm nestles at the foot of the majestic Krakadouw Peak, surrounded by the Cederberg mountains. The mountains bordering the farm form part of the Cederberg Wilderness Area, a protected conservation area.

The imposing Cederberg mountain range offers outdoor enthusiasts a myriad of experiences and activities. Hiking is particularly awarding, giving the visitor time to enjoy and observe the diverse plant and animal life. Hikes from the farm can range from leisurely walks along picturesque farm roads to challenging trails into the mountains and up to Krakadouw Peak.

The Cederberg is known for its distinctive rock formations. Weathered over millennia, these rock "sculptures" often resemble all kinds of imagined forms.

In the previous century the mountains were home to many Cedar trees. Sadly, these were harvested for telephone poles, ship building and furniture, to the point where they are now a rare sight. A project by Nature Conservation is cultivating young trees and introducing them back into the area.

Spring (August to October) is a wondrous experience with carpets of wild flowers and rare indigenous species flowering, providing the winter rainfall was good.

Small game and birdlife abound in the wilderness reserve and sightings of baboons, dassies (rock rabbits), otters, small deer and Black Eagles are not uncommon.

The perennial Jan Dissel River flows through the farm and provides shady banks and crystal-clear rock pools to swim in.
